Who We Are

We are passionate
ABOUT MUSIC

We know you are too.

Common sense and useful practical advice is what we are all about. But it is our love of music underpins everything we do.

Each of our staff members are passionate about music and we employ them for that very reason. We can teach people the skills and the knowledge to look after our customers but we can never teach them the enthusiasm or passion for music; you either have it or you haven't.

Hearing a song is like a favourite toy that you rediscover when tidying the attic.

We are amazed that customers tell us of bad experiences when visiting many hifi shops. They tell us its hard to get a demonstration or that staff try and ram certain products down their throats. Our demo rooms are always available and provided there isn't another customer in them, you can listen to anything at any time. We also take the approach that we should advise you; and we can only do this by listening to your requirements.

People like you (and people like us) are pretty rare and you deserve to be looked after. We estimate that only 2% of the population care enough about music to want to listen to it reproduced with some accuracy.

When we talk about reproduction people often assume we mean through the most expensive equipment we stock.

I'd like to assure you that very often we hear the most wonderful sound coming from carefully chosen affordable components. The reason for this is that putting a system together that will perform well is not just about plugging it in and pressing "play".

Twenty seven years ago we realized that a well put together system will increase your enjoyment of music and educate your ear in such a way that you will search for new music and be able to enjoy music that previously meant nothing to you.

Why is this so?

Actually its quite simple; music is a language of emotion and in order for it to weave its spell on you it has to reach your ears. Many hi-fi systems simply do not allow the music to do this. Instead they filter, alter, corrupt and lose the delicate signal that makes up the music.

Music is about passion and soul - but its nothing if you can't hear it.
Since mediocre equipment can't reproduce music well; many people “grow out” of listening to music and lose the thrill it once provided them. In their quest to save space or money people often buy “lifestyle” systems that are so poor at reproducing music that they kill your enjoyment and enthusiasm for music. When we don't enjoy a thing we don't use it.

There is a trend that we often see; people start off being passionate about music in their teens and often own a great stereo and a fast expanding music collection. Then they get a job, get married and the stereo is the first casualty, being replaced by a compact system which kills their enjoyment of music. The end result is that they don’t buy much music and tend to listen more in the car than they do at home. In most homes the TV is always on but people claim to have “no time” to listen to music. This saddens us because when we love something we make time for it. But when we have lost that love we can find lots of excuses not to do it.

The most popular missconception about decent hifi is that it is expensive. People will buy a car that will lose tens of thousands in its first year. Others will spend a thousand pounds on a handbag or to eat in a restaurant where the chef is vulgar and likes shouting at people and you end up eating what he things you should eat. It is all fools stuffing!

Conversely our stereo systems last fifteen years and more and still sound fantastic!

Let music move you.

Music is an important part of our lives and creates a sense of wellbeing. Research has proven that music relaxes people and that children develop a higher IQ when exposed to music in the womb. Recently it has also been proven that people recover faster from illness and operations when music is played to them. What other proof do you need?

Many people might think as hifi specialists we are obsessed by equipment. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth; equipment is the delivery method for music and nothing more. We are not "into" equipment so much as music.

As technology develops the delivery method of purchased music might change from CD to downloads or something similar. Good amplification and loudspeakers will still remain critical in extracting the detail needed to make listen to music a joyous experience. Don’t be fooled by computers with cheap speakers; the will kill your enjoyment of music stone dead. If this is falling on deaf ears then it likely you are in the wrong place. If this makes sense - visit us and spend some time listening to our music systems.

It is sad but before the Japanese lost interest in hifi in favour of home cinema, they actually made some quite decent equipment. Now they don’t and as a result someone replacing a system that features Japanese separates from the late 80’s will probably end up with something inferior.

Hifi systems are not like computers, which get faster and cheaper every year. Quality doesn’t change or depreciate and a good system (and I didn’t say expensive) is an investment in music and well-being for yourself and all the family.

Of course the very best systems are expensive but the benefits are endless!

We are selective about the equipment we sell. It isn’t hard to choose the best equipment at any given price; just listen to it and the rest is obvious. As an independent, we are not tied to any specific brands, choosing instead to select equipment with the same care that our customers do.

It is our intention to offer you the best choice for your budget however you choose to do business with us. Of course we would prefer to see you all in person but we appreciate that this isn't always possible. This should not mean you have to expect less service from us though. Many shops treat the phone and emails as an inconvenience; we don't. We know your time is precious and respect whatever medium you choose to contact us by.

Moorgate Acoustics offer trade-in against many of the products we stock and are delighted to take back anything we have sold against in the past. Contact us for a valuation of your equipment in trade-in against your new purchase.

We also have an on-site service department which handles anything from upgrading Naim and LP12's to servicing older equipment. Not sending equipment away cuts down on the amount of time you are without it!

Not all the hifi we sell is available on-line. The reason for this is that some items require demonstration and installation to get the best from them. Where we can't offer this we do not supply these products online. If you need any further assistance please contact us.

Conversely not all the products on this website are available in-store and some deals are web-only.

When browsing our products, if you see "add to basket" you can purchase the product online and have it delivered FREE to your home (UK mainland only). Where you see "click to find out more", you can't purchase the product online and will need to contact us to see if we can deliver and install in your area. You can be sure of a speedy reply.

Enjoy the site; you'll find it contains lots of information. We will be busy continuously improving it and always welcome your suggestions/feedback.
