Project Turntables

Project turntables have become synonymous with performance and value for money. ProJect products are the result of an exemplary cooperation within a rapidly uniting Europe. For over fifty years record players have been designed and built at Pro-Ject’s manufacturing facility in Litovel, situated to the east of Prague. This plant is one of the most advanced manufacturers of precision mechanics in the country In cooperating with this company Pro-Ject Audio Systems, located in Vienna, found the ideal partner for their plans to produce the goods that they missed from amongst the vast flood of consumer hifi products – simple, uncluttered and utterly functional products. Pro-Ject Audio Systems is currently one of the world’s leading suppliers of record players, with a range of models designed to satisfy all levels of expectation and budget. In many countries of the world customers can rely on competent service and support from Pro-Ject distributors well versed in analogue record reproduction technology. Pro-Ject products exhibit sonic performance beyond all expectations normally associated with their price. they are simple to use, maintenance free and will function reliably a lifetime long. They also offer extraordinary value for money.

Here is an overview of the Project turntables that we carry on demonstration and in stock.

Project Elemental £175

This fine budget record player is available in two forms. The first is a standard record player with arm and cartridge fitted. It is a plug and play device that can be plugged into any amplifier with a dedicated turntable input.

The other – the Phono SB has a phono stage actually built into it – as well as a USB that enables the unit to be plugged directly into a computer for digitising!

elementalred

The new Elemental Phono USB table is a real “plug’n’play” all the way. No adjustment of counterweight and anti-skating is needed, because both are pre-adjusted. This new straight tonearm is optimised for Ortofon OM cartridge series.

All the buyer needs to do is remove it from the box, remove bearing guard, locate the belt around the platter, remove stylus guard and plug it into hi-fi system and computer.

The hidden secret to the new table’s sonic success, is a central gravity mass point, made from artificial stone and placed directly underneath the platter bearing. It is capable to fully absorb unwanted rumble and motor vibration. This turntable appears to be pure simplicity itself, while maintaining high quality audio standards and vinyl recording capability.

Project Debut Carbon DC £349

carbon1

The best-buy turntable classic with carbon tonearm and DC power supply!

The first Debut turntable, introduced in the late 1990s, was a revolution for the hi-fi industry. For the first time after the arrival of Compact Disc and the assumed demise of vinyl records, an analogue product re-emerged in the “mass market” – something all music lovers could afford.

The new DEBUT Carbon DC has been designed to set new standards in this category for the coming decade – perfectly timed as analogue today is again a respected source, while the demand for good turntables is growing again!

carbon2

The most obvious improvement is the inclusion of a CARBON TUBE for the tonearm, which increases stiffness and decreases unwanted resonance.

This material normally is extensively used in high-end tonearms, but – because of cost reasons – was never used in products at lower price levels. Together with other improvements like an increase in platter size and weight to realize even smoother rotation, the overall sound quality is greatly improved. The approved belt drive design offers low noise AC motor with effective motor decoupling (utilising TPE-damping) and ultra precision frequency DC-driven AC generator (like Speed Box) for ultimate speed stability without unwanted vibration.

carbon3

The DEBUT CARBON DC is offered in high-gloss black or shiny red, green, blue, yellow, silver or white as no-added-cost option.

Dust cover included.

Debut Carbon Esprit SB £449

esprit2

The all-new Debut Carbon Esprit SB turntable from Pro-Ject Audio takes the hugely successful, multi-award winning Carbon design and adds even more to the already impressive package. On top of the new 8.6CC carbon fibre tonearm, new power supply method, improved motor isolation, pre-installed Ortofon 2M Red and new cable junction box found on the standard Debut Carbon; the Esprit SB version also uses a totally new speed control principle to allow for easy changing between 33 1/3 RPM and 45RPM. The deck can also spin at 78 RPM by switching the pulley to the larger rung and setting the speed changer to ’45/78′ (Please Note: 78 RPM records require a special stylus – we recommend the 2M 78 Stylus for this turntable).

esprit1
As well as being convenient, the speed control system also allows for smoother motor operation – further reducing unwanted resonances along with the improved motor isolation. The new motor isolation system utilises a wholly unique rubber compound developed exclusively by Ortofon A/S to offer dramatically reduced resonance transference from the high-quality 9V motor the turntable employs.

Another sonic benefit is found in the Esprit’s included platter upgrade. Acrylic is a an excellent playback platform, as it offers almost no resonance in the audible frequencies and negates the need for a slipmat which can sometimes cause problems.

The Debut Carbon Esprit SB is available in three stylish, high-gloss colours.

Project Classic £899

classic

Lovely record player that marries modern technology to classic design that harks back to the LINN, The Thorens and the Ariston classics!

Comes complete with cartridge fitted.

To celebrate their 25 year anniversary, Pro-Ject Audio are combining traditional design with modern technology in a brand new turntable model. The aptly named ‘Classic’ is a sleek, compact and elegant turntable based around the “frame” design popularised by the likes of Thorens and Linn in the 1950’s and 60’s, but implemented with the innovative technologies Pro-Ject have become known for.

The two-plinth design allows the motor to sit in a separate plinth to the bearing and tonearm, reducing the unwanted transference of electrical and mechanical noise. The two medium-density fibre plinth sections are isolated from each-other with the use of specially selected Thermo-Plastic Elastomers (TPE). The use of TPE, rather than the spring-loaded method of historical designs, makes The Classic effortlessly simple to set up while retaining anti-resonance properties.

The idea of anti-resonant structures also carries through to The Classic’s platter. The general layout was inspired by the iconic Debut platter assembly, but the main platter has been significantly upgraded to a special aluminium alloy version which is internally lined with TPE damping. The sub-platter and bearing are also similar to the Debut design, but the tolerances are far tighter for The Classic, resulting in a higher-quality performance.

classicrose

The Classic also boasts a radical new tonearm design, inspired by the production processes developed for the award-winning RPM 3 Carbon turntable. The tonearm tube is made from a sandwich composite of carbon and aluminium. The carbon fibre gives the arm rigidity, speed and reduced mass, while the aluminium delivers better overall damping. The tube is then supported by a new bearing assembly with ultra-low friction and wider movement for improved tracking. The nickel-plated counterweight not only looks fantastic, it’s also TPE-damped to ensure the arm remains acoustically neutral. The Classic tonearm can also be VTA and azimuth adjusted to suit almost any modern pick-up cartridge.

The Classic is supplied as standard with the Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge, which has been developed exclusively for Pro-Ject Audio. This popular moving-magnet design allows The Classic to perform to a high standard right out of the box, and also offers upgrade options as your musical journey continues. The Classic is also supplied with a fitted dust cover, a junction box for easy cable upgrades and the Connect-IT E RCA cables. The three finishes (eucalyptus (black), rosenut and walnut) also mean The Classic can fit into any decor.

Project 6 PerspeX SB £1399 no cart

perspex10

Fantastic sound and stunning visual design. Comes with lid and options to receive a cartridge at a reduced price!

The 6 Perspex SB takes the same proven design as previous 6 Perspex designs, but utilises a far superior motor to give vinyl enthusiasts an even more appealing high-end vinyl spinner.

The new perimeter drive-belt mechanism has been inspired by the recent introduction of the RPM 10 Carbon turntable, which uses a fully-decoupled motor. With the 6 Perspex SB, the motor sits within its own cut-out inside the main plinth, lined with damping material for reduced resonance. The motor itself is an AC design, which is regulated by its own built-in speed controller. This speed controller not only offers easy switching between 331/3 and 45rpm, but it also generates an entirely fresh new sine wave for the motor – filtering out the fluctuations and distortions associated with a typical mains supply, for reduced resonance.

perspex2

The 6 Perspex SB stands out as a beautifully engineered machine thanks to the pristine acrylic plinth, which is accented by the striking sub-chassis, platter and TPE-damped aluminium coned feet, as well as the new motor.

The turntable’s sub-chassis is made of Corian®, a solid-surface material renowned for its isolation properties. This sub-chassis is then isolated from the main plinth by magnetic power, effectively creating a “floating” platform free from unwanted vibrations. The precision-balanced vinyl sandwich platter rides on the sub-chassis utilising an inverted main bearing, which combines a stainless-steel axle with a ceramic ball. The platter’s 4mm thick vinyl top-layer is the perfect interface for a playing record, and eliminates the need for any form of turntable mat, which can have a detrimental effect on the sound performance of high-end turntables. The platter is finished with a threaded spindle, to accommodate the supplied screw-able record clamp.

The 6 Perspex SB is finished with Pro-Ject’s coveted 9CC Evolution tonearm for a true high-end experience. The 9” tonearm boasts a one-piece conical carbon fibre tube, TPE-damped counterweights and an inverted bearing design that allows for perfect tracking and minimal resonance, even with demanding pick-up cartridges.

The 6 Perspex SB is the complete audiophile turntable, but at a very appealing price. A top grade phono cable is supplied in the way of the Connect-IT E (123cm) and a protective dust cover tops off this incredible package.
